DORCHESTER, MA (July 20, 2024) – Cristo Rey Boston High School [cristoreyboston.org], a private, tuition-free, college-prep, Catholic high school in Dorchester, received a grant from the Deloitte Foundation to provide critical college scholarships to members of the Class of 2024 pursuing specific majors.

Cristo Rey Boston is committed to serving culturally diverse, aspirational students with demonstrated economic need.  100% of Cristo Rey Boston’s Class of 2024 earned college acceptance. Eight students were chosen by staff and faculty as Deloitte Foundation Scholars based on their academic and leadership excellence and fitting the criteria for the intended study area. The one-year scholarships range from $5,000 to $10,000.

The grant funding from the Deloitte Foundation helps close the opportunity gap for college-bound seniors who intend to pursue majors in accounting, finance, economics, mechanical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, information systems, information technology, data science, data analytics, math, cybersecurity, or informatics.

The 2024-2025 Deloitte Foundation Scholars will attend the following institutions: Bentley University, Boston University, Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, Messina College at Boston College, University of Massachusetts Amherst, and University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Debbie Rateau, Director of College Counseling at Cristo Rey Boston, noted, “These scholarships are vital to creating opportunity for Cristo Rey Boston students. Many of our students have significant funding gaps between the financial aid they receive from institutions and their family’s ability to fund tuition. The scholarships provided to our Deloitte Foundation Scholars help close that critical gap.”

Rosemary J. Powers, President of Cristo Rey Boston, remarked, “This incredible investment in young aspirational students has a tremendous ripple effect. When students can pursue their academic interests, free from financial worries, they can be better prepared to succeed. We deeply thank the Deloitte Foundation for investing in our students.”

Cristo Rey Boston High School serves 240 students, predominantly from Dorchester, Mattapan, and Roxbury. They are often the first in their families to attend college. Despite challenges, Cristo Rey Boston students persevere and graduate from college at more than three times the rate of their peers in comparable socio-economic demographics. Cristo Rey Boston students are aspirational and hard-working young men and women who can become future leaders throughout Boston, given the right opportunities.
