Bryie, Class of 2026, discovers leadership through soccer

When Bryie, class of 2025, chose to play soccer at Cristo Rey Boston High School, she discovered an unexpected community and stepped into her potential as a leader.

Bryie joined the soccer team during her sophomore year to find a hobby outside of school and be physically active.  She shares, “I started just to have something to do, but the community made me really start liking it.” Participating in sports at CRB led to a series of opportunities and decisions that continue to shape her outlook on the future.

Bryie came to CRB with her sights on becoming a lawyer. Through the Corporate Work Study program, she worked at the Suffolk County District of Attorney’s Office and the Dorchester District Courthouse. These opportunities helped her build entry-level office management skills while learning what it was like to work in a legal setting.

During her sophomore year, Bryie fell in love with her biology class which sparked her interest in working in the medical field. She experienced it firsthand when she worked with the Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center as her junior year Corporate Work Study placement.

Through her Corporate Work Study experiences, Bryie discovered an unexpected passion for health and medicine.  As a student athlete herself, she connects with many of the patients at Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center who are ex-athletes. She will begin applying to colleges this fall and plans to study sports medicine.

Bryie is passionate about things she spends her time doing. This was instilled in her by her mother, who tells her that “whatever you’re interested in, go after it. This is your time.” Her passion for soccer led her to work with the Soccer Unity Project where she spent this past summer coaching younger players.

She feels that “Soccer Unity Project is very much a community and helped me to step into a leadership role. I am ready to take on even bigger roles in life.”  This echoes what she learned growing up in a household with four generations of women. Her mother, grandmother, and great grandmother taught her to always stand strong.

Through both sports and her Corporate Work Study placements, Bryie became a leader in her community and discovered unexpected passions. The invaluable impact of her experiences at Cristo Rey Boston remains with her as she transitions to college and the next phase of her life.
